The
laws practiced in North Cyprus are the
Anglo-Saxon laws enacted by the British
Governors pre 1960 during the times when Cyprus
was still a Colony of the British Empire.
No
doubt lots of things have changed since then,
and to coupe with the changes our local
Parliament is enacting new Laws but in very
urgent cases would they repeal or amend the
Cyprus laws enacted pre 1960.
In
litigation, while applying locally
enacted Laws and Regulations, The Laws of Cyprus
still prevail. The decisions of the High Court
of England and decisions of the High Court of
Cyprus delivered before 1963 are still binding
on North Cyprus Courts.
Court
cases are tried in the District Courts, which
are exercising jurisdiction as a first instance
Court, and if any one of the parties to the
litigation is in any way dissatisfied with the
decision is entitled, as of right, to appeal to
the Court of Appeal. Decisions of the Appeal
Court are final.
